imagine a life without voice…

Man is unique in creation that he can speak and communicate since birth. It is the presence of 'Voice Box - Larynx' that makes it possible. When this part is afflicted with cancer and removed, he loses 'AWAZ' (voice) and many times his livelihood. The disability is distressing, as one cannot even ask for his basic needs.

Fortunately with modern technology an artificial larynx 'Voice Prosthesis' can be implanted and he can be trained to speak with an audible voice in a few days. Many a time we have to see, hear and believe it. The cost of the 'Voice Prosthesis' to be implanted by the surgeon is Rs.10, 000/-. Cancer does not respect rich or poor. The poor patients, already burdened with the expense of surgery for the removal of larynx, can hardly afford and is in despair.

Rotary Club - Mumbai Juhu with 'Crusade Against Cancer Foundation' has initiated 'Project AWAZ' to give a new voice and a new life to these patients.

Crusade Against Cancer Foundation has supplied the Voice Prosthesis so far to 26 deserving persons recommended by the specialists (till March 2005).
