What causes
childhood cancer?
Very little is known. Unlike adult cancers, there is no clear evidence
that they can be caused by environmental agents such as chemicals.
In the past, some may have been caused by excessive exposure to x-rays.
Nowadays doctors are aware of the possible hazards and take appropriate
precautions.
Cancers themselves are not usually hereditary. (The only important
exceptions to this are retinoblastoma, a type of eye cancer, and medullary
thyroid cancer, which are often inherited).
